People pursue therapy for a variety of reasons: personal challenges stemming from past and present life experiences, mental health conditions (such as anxiety or depression),  and/or exploration of personal feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in order to better understand themselves, their relationship with others, and acquire the insight needed to work toward a desired personal change. 

Clients may engage in work with a therapist only once in their life for a short period of time (6-8 sessions), or seek therapy for short periods several times in their lifetime during different seasons of life, such as the death of a significant person in their life, divorce, parenting stress, and/or any other major life transitions or challenges. Other people may spend several years in therapy. The length of therapy is dependent on the client's unique needs and personal goals.
